Editor's Review:

If you’re looking for a roommate, a room, an apartment or to rent out a room yourself then you’ve come to the right place! Roomster is an international site which helps people to find roommates or to rent out their rooms using an innovative and in depth research base. But it’s not all as scientific and dull as it sounds, it is designed with you in mind and it’s easy to spend hours browsing through profiles of potential roommates from all over the globe or just down the street.

Signing up with Roomster is quick and easy, surprising given the fact that it asks a variety of important questions which will help match you with like-minded people. But this feature really can be a life saver because the more you know about someone before you move in with them, the better. Roomster helps you to avoid awkward conversations which inevitable end in “errr sorry you’re not for me” by letting you know all about a person’s attitudes to sharing accommodation prior to meeting.

It asks questions about the time they wake up, their profession, the amount of time they spend in the house, their hygiene and cleanliness levels. There’s no reason to be shy here, and certainly no reason to tell lies. If you’re OCD then you won’t enjoy living with someone who is a self-proclaimed master of mess. Roomster cuts to the chase when it comes to finances and the necessities in accommodation too. Searches and matches are based primarily on location and rental costs, each of which can be altered at any time to adjust your results. You can sort by a number of variants, which makes sure your results are featuring in an order of importance decided by you.

A lot of members have made the effort to add photos and details to their profile. The quality of photos on profiles is also much higher than many sites, at 2 MB each, and you can upload several onto your profile to show people your crib or simply what you enjoy doing. This is a good tactic for gaining attention when you first join. You can also put out a megaphone message, which will contact all members looking for a roommate or those who have a free room in a given area. This saves so much time because you don’t have to go through every single profile in your desired area and contact them individually.

It's a professional but fun roommate website which is designed to make house hunting as painless as possible.

Contacting members is perhaps the most awkward part of Roomster for unpaid members, but its system is by no means unique. Non-paying members are able to send messages to other members, but not read their replies. You could of course send your contact details in that initial email but it’s a risky business because you don’t know other members at this point. Upgrading opens up the options and allows you to read and receive messages from all users, it also shows you a much more detailed breakdown of members’ likes, dislikes and quirks.

Roomster has some focus on linking college students but that shouldn’t deter professional individuals, couples or even groups from using its service. It caters for all of these and landlords can also use the site to advertise empty rooms in their properties. Landlords, like roommates, can specify the sorts of people they are interested in based on factors such as smoking habits, children and pets. Roomster even offers links to moving agencies to help landlords and tenants get their possessions between locations. Anyone can read the array or hints and tips on renting and leasing properties, how best to deal with roommates and owners, how to carry out tenant background reports and various insurance issues.

Essentially Roomster isn’t free if you want to make the most of what it can offer, but it’s more than reasonable at the price it charges. For the sake of a few dollars it’s best to have the service and sheer volume of options available through Roomster, rather than risk moving in with strangers who you’ve not spoken to. It's a professional but fun roommate website which is designed to make house hunting as painless as possible. You’ll be shocked at how many matches you receive and the choice available to you. With its international possibilities the site provides a great opportunity for people looking to travel or move abroad, making it quite an exciting site indeed! We recommend that you visit Roomster, make a free profile, take the time to fill out the questions and upload a few decent photos. It's a superb site which is bound to help you find a happy life with new roommates. Bon voyage!
