As others have stated here, this is not a roommate matching company. It's a fraudulent scheme simply to collect your personal information, which is likely being sold to other people in the attempt to phish your computer and accounts. All companies promise not to sell or give out your personal info, but hardly any of them entice you to create an account where they ban you access from your profile. Without access to your profile, you cannot update changes, nor can you delete your account and personal info, leaving just your email behind for their records. When you are unable to access the personal information you submitted, nor delete it, it can be sold, even if the company folds and your personal info is sold right along with the company, and for what purposes, you wouldn't know.

If you did a basic search for roommate matching websites, and you found RoomieMatch at the top of the list, keep in mind that there are many marketing companies who solicit these companies and promise to list them first on some recently created "best of roommate services websites" if they are willing to pay a fee. Companies usually don't take that bait unless they are experiencing a major decline in business, as generally ppl will gauge who they will patronize for business based on online reviews. Apparently their reviews were never good, so they paid a marketing company big $$$$ to make them appear to be the best roommate matching service, when clearly, they are not.

This company even has horrible reviews with the BBB. And the crazy thing about the BBB, if a company is willing to pay to clean up negative complaints left, the BBB will help to make those negative complaints magically disappear. However, the BBB is not the best tool to use to separate legit companies from the non-legit, due to how they make so many allowances for problematic companies to clean up their act. Nonetheless, when a company shows they have a flagrant disregard with cleaning up negative reviews, where they are too lazy and aloof to even care, it just proves that they are as fraudulent as consumers claim. So apparently, that marketing company did wonders for their business traffic & profits because BBB reviews are not harming them. And that's bottomline....crazy AND stupid!

Do not sign up, if you have not already.

Do not pay the $20.

I would suggest that you all use the research keywords, 'roomiematch' and 'faq', and read them. Apparently, they added this feature to help avoid the legal issues they previously had, yet still, it does not resolve those issues. In fact, I am quite surprised that the State of Washington hasn't gone after them when they literally explain in their FAQs that they are committing fraud. Does it make it less fraudulent when they admit to it, so it seems that if you sign up with them, you are agreeing to have your personal info held hostage w/o the ability to delete it? I don't believe that flies with the Washington State AG office, which users of this website should contact in order to trigger an investigation at the state level, which is the only way to force this company to shut down.

RoomieMatch location:

7511 Greenwood Ave N # 502
Seattle, WA 98103-4627.

Feel free to show up there to confront them. If you can write a review here regarding what you found, I'm sure disgruntled users of their system would appreciate it.

The Washington State AG Office in Seattle is located at:

800 Fifth Avenue
Suite 2000
Seattle, WA 98104
Phone: (206) 464-7744

Their website for submitting complaints is:

If you live in, or near, the Seattle area, I suggest to go one further if you paid your $20 and are completely dissatisfied....take them to court. You can sue up to $5,000 in Kings County, and legal counsel or representation is not allowed. You have to represent yourself, and the same with the person or company being sued. I researched who their statutory agent is, so that papers can be served on that person, but according to the Washington State of State office, who handles registered agents, there isn't anyone operating in their state with the name RoomieMatch, or anything similar. Also, the only company with the word "roommate" listed, was dissolved back in 2008. So IDK how they managed to operate in the state of Washington in the first place w/o listing a statutory or registered agent, which is a necessary legal requirement for any business, however big or small. I suppose you will need to send the court papers to the address listed by the Washington State BBB office, which I provided in this review. I'm not sure how a person could forcibly claim their judgement however, without confirming who the registered agent is through the Washington SoS office, so to plan accordingly with the courts on who would be garnished and how.

In summary, I would not recommend Roomie Match to a friend.
